INTRODUCTION

Stage fright is called as PERFORMANCE ANXIETY . It can be termed as fear that arises while performing in front of audience . It is common that stage fright arises merely due to anticipation of performance. This phobia is not a just psychological problem but  also results in physical changes like profuse sweating, trembling of limbs, facial nerve tic, increases heart beat and erectile dysfunction.


  Though Stage Fright seems a minor problem but it can ruin all the hard work and effort put to execute  a job and even an opportunity to display ones talent could be ruined . So it is must to overcome "The Stage Fright".

OVERCOMING STAGE FRIGHT

Stage fright can be conquered by dealing  in two situations :-
 
1. PRIOR TO PERFORMANCE

METHOD TO OVERCOME STAGE FRIGHT

PRIOR TO THE PERFORMANCE 

 
Being well prepared for upcoming task is what a wise man does. So following steps should be followed to give the best shot:-
                                                 

  • Knowledge :- 
         Most important strategies  for reducing stage fright is knowing your subject thoroughly. Topic must be rehearsed  both alone and with friends.

FOCUS

Just before the beginning, the complete focus should be on the job. You must know the stuff to be done and the one to be avoided. Nothing should distract you.

LIGHT EXERSICE

Deep breathe can help to relive from the tension . When afraid ,the body starts showing fight or flight symptoms and small light exercise like jogging, hopping helps to remain calm.


                                                               

SELF MOTIVATION

No one knows you  better than yourself so take time and talk to yourself. Say to yourself .``I can do it``. Self motivation works only when you know your responsibilities.And think that nothing is impossible.
                                          

USING BETA BLOCKER

These are the drugs that are used to decrease the effects of stage fright. According to one study, "beta blockade significantly inhibited an  increase in heart rate when performance was before an audience" (Klaus). But these drugs should be used under guidance of physician.

DURING PERFORMANCE

To stay in control during your performance ,to build credibility and to engage the audience there are some guidelines for effective speaking:
                                                           
  •  Begin with pause
  •  Maintain Eye Contact
  • A moderate tone of voice 

While performing a person should be comfortable,move freely and express emotion like He has put his heart on sleeves .One should talk directly to the audience and there must be a natural movements.

Another common way of  overcoming fear is by considering yourself superior than audience. It gives boost of required confidence.

                                             

AUDIO VIDEO AIDS

Mere speaking  tends to lose the grip from audience's attention. This can lead to awkwardness in audience. The uncomfortableness results nervousness. So to avoid it , presenting  audio visual aids helps in making concept interesting and the spectators more lively.
                                       

SIP OF WATER

Nervousness and speech results in drying of mouth.Extensive speech results in lose of saliva thus drying of moth and lips occurs .So always keep water by your side and drink in sips when body needs.

CAP UP

Stage fright is normal phenomenon   which is natural and controllable.  Every person who has appeared before   audience has experienced it. Dianna  Booher , a corporate speech   consultant says,``If you hear someone say  he or she isn`t nervous   before a speech, you are talking either to a  liar or a very boring   speaker``. By following few simple steps stage  fright can easily be   overcome .
